The only Giant sets I have done were for legs, leg ext 20-25 reps, hack squat 20 reps and leg press 20 reps, or to failure whichever comes first! Bloody killer and if you are inclined to throw up this will do the job! Two times round is more than enough. I found it good to do once a month or so, but don't be planning on climbing any tall staircases after the event. I haven't tried what you have suggested so sorry, don't know if its any good or not. In theory I see no reason why it should not be effective over a short period of time, must shock the system somewhat.
